MH Wilds Status Ailments and Blights Guide
How blights and status ailments work in Monster Hunter Wilds, including Dragonblight from Arkveld and Thunderblight from Rey Dau, and how to cure each.
Blights
A blight is applied by an element and, in most cases, is cleared with a Nulberry. The ones that matter in the base game:
- Fireblight — damage-over-time that escalates if you keep moving; stop and wait it out, or roll through water or an environmental puddle to drop it.
- Waterblight — slows your stamina recovery, which hurts weapon modes that burn stamina.
- Iceblight — drains stamina faster and slows movement.
- Thunderblight — raises the thunder damage you take and lengthens stuns. It is the signature infliction of Rey Dau, the Windward Plains apex; plan for it in that fight (see the Rey Dau guide).
- Dragonblight — the dangerous one: it nullifies your elemental attack and stops elemental-status buildup until cured. Arkveld applies it, and because so many Wilds builds lean on element, ignoring it guts your damage. A Nulberry clears it. Always carry Nulberries against element-heavy fights. The elemental vs raw guide explains why an element you cannot use is a damage loss, not just a flavor.
Status ailments
These are not element-based and need their own responses:
- Poison — steady health drain; cure with a Herbal Medicine or Deodorant (the latter also ends Dragonblight-adjacent effects depending on the build).
- Paralysis — locks your movement for a few seconds; riding out the timer or a Wedge Beetle gets you moving.
- Sleep — you wake on the next hit, so a sleeping hunter near the monster is a free heavy hit for the team.
- Blast — builds to an explosion rather than a lasting debuff.
- Stun — repeated head hits drop you; a Flinch Free skill or a well-timed dodge reduces it.
Why it matters for loadout
Monsters in the weakness chart pair their blight with a weak element, so your cure item and your weapon element are decided by the same fight. The Arkveld guide is the clearest example: Dragonblight turns its own fight into a Nulberry management check.
