How to Beat Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds: Weakness Guide
Arkveld's weaknesses, breakable parts, the HR 40 unlock, the Guardian variant, Arch-Tempered endgame, and how to handle Dragonblight.
Arkveld — the White Wraith and flagship of Monster Hunter Wilds — is the toughest fight in the base campaign and the gate to the endgame. Here is what the hunt actually demands.
Weaknesses and breakable parts
- Best element: Dragon. Arkveld is weakest to Dragon; other elements are only moderately effective, so a Dragon weapon or Dragon Ammo is the cleanest choice.
- Physical weak point: the chainblades (the chain-like wing appendages). They take only physical damage — projectile and slicing attacks work, elemental does not — and you can break them, which drops a shard and shortens its reach.
- Head/Horns are the stunning target for blunt weapons; the tail is severable with cutting weapons.
How you unlock the fight
You must reach Hunter Rank 40. HR is locked there until you clear the High Rank story finale, the Chapter 6-1 assignment “Awaking from a Dream,” where Arkveld kills a Rey Dau in the Windward Plains. Before that, you only meet the Guardian Arkveld in Chapter 3 — a different, uncapturable variant. After the HR 40 hunt, Arkveld periodically appears in every biome, and as a Tempered monster it drops Artian parts, strong decorations, and the coveted Hunter Symbol III used for top weapon upgrades.
The two states you must respect
When enraged, Arkveld channels energy into its chains — they expand, widen its attack range, and hit harder. This is also its weakness: if you hit the chains often enough they retract and stagger it, and a well-timed Focus Strike on the glowing mouth during a charge interrupts the move for a long knockdown.
Its attacks inflict Dragonblight, which seals your weapon’s element and status unless you cleanse with a Nulberry. Bring a stack, and consider Dragon Resistance armor.
Arch-Tempered Arkveld
The endgame version is dramatically faster and hits harder, and its Dragonblight is added to every attack. Dragon Resistance level 3 (a Dragon Resistance value of 20+) nullifies it; Nulberries are the emergency backup.
Capture or carve
Your first HR 40 Arkveld cannot be captured — fight it to the death. Later roaming Arkvelds can be captured if you want carves plus capture rewards; the capture guide covers the rules so you do not waste a trap. For the fight itself, the weakness chart confirms Dragon is the element to bring.
