Phasmophobia Fingerprints (UV): Doors, Windows, Salt
Fingerprints are evidence on 13 ghosts, but they appear only on certain surfaces and fade. Where to shine the UV light and how the Obake differs.
Fingerprint evidence — usually called Ultraviolet or UV — is one of the most reliable pieces because it is visible and persistent, once you know where to point the light. The trap is expecting prints on walls the ghost never touched.
What counts
Shine the UV light on a surface and look for a bright green handprint or fingerprint smudge. You also get the evidence from footprints in salt if the ghost steps in it. Any one confirmed print counts.
Which ghosts leave prints
Thirteen ghosts have this evidence: Banshee, Demon, Gallu, Goryo, Hantu, Jinn, Kormos, Myling, Obake, Obambo, Phantom, Poltergeist, and The Mimic. See the evidence cheat sheet for the full grid.
Where to look
- Doors the ghost opened or closed — the most common spot.
- Light switches it flipped.
- Windows it rapped on.
- Salt piles you placed at chokepoints, which show footprints when disturbed.
Prints persist until the end of the investigation, so a print from ten minutes ago still counts. Sweep the room with the UV light after every confirmed interaction rather than only after a hunt.
The Obake exception
The Obake is the reason to count fingers. It has a small chance (about one in six, or 16.7%) to leave a six-fingered handprint, a unique tell no other ghost produces. Its prints also fade faster than normal, so an Obake room can look print-free by the time you check late. If you catch a print that seems to have vanished, or one with an extra digit, write Obake down immediately.
Common mistakes
Searching blank walls, checking a room the ghost has already left, and shining the UV light in a lit room where the green glow is harder to see. The Wraith is a special case worth remembering: it cannot leave footprints in salt, so salt that stays clean does not rule fingerprints out for every ghost. For how this fits the wider evidence order, see the identification order guide and the evidence types reference.
