Space Marine 2 Armoury Data: The Weapon Upgrade Gate

Armoury Data is what actually upgrades a weapon, and you can only get two per mission. The pickup rules, the quality tiers and the 3-to-1 trade.

The rule that catches people out

One Armoury Data spawns on each Operation, hidden in one of several fixed locations. A random Terminus-level enemy — a Helbrute, Carnifex, or Neurothrope — can also drop one, which is the only way to reach two in a single mission. The catch: the Operation must be completed for the Data to count. Picking it up and then failing, quitting, or disconnecting gives you nothing. That is why a squad that finds Data early should treat the rest of the mission as an escort job rather than a loot run — the pickup is not yours until the victory screen.

Quality tiers

Armoury Data comes in three qualities, and which one you get is decided by difficulty, not by luck:

  • Average rewards Master-Crafted quality.
  • Substantial rewards Artificer.
  • Ruthless, Lethal and Absolute reward Relic. You can hold up to 20 of each quality. If you are short of the quality a given upgrade needs, a higher-quality Data can substitute for a lower one — wasteful, but it unblocks a wall. The reverse does not work.

The 3-to-1 trade

The Armoury Data Refinement workshop on the Battle Barge lets you trade three Data of one quality for one of the next quality up. It also lets you sell Data for Requisition. That trade is the reason to keep clearing difficulties you have outgrown. A stack of low-quality Data is not dead weight; it is a third of the next tier. But be careful with the sell option: Requisition is renewable from every mission, while Data is capped at two per run. Selling the scarcer resource to buy the commoner one is usually the wrong direction, however tempting the immediate perk purchase is.

Where it goes

Two upgrades compete for every Data: weapon quality and class perks. Weapon quality raises the ceiling on a weapon’s damage tier — Standard, then Master-Crafted, Artificer, Relic — while perks change how a class plays and cost Requisition to activate. The order that wastes least: pick one weapon per class, push it as high as your difficulty allows, and leave the rest at Standard. A Relic-tier weapon in the class you actually play beats four Artificer weapons in classes you do not.

The trap on easy difficulties

Minimal and Average award the same quality. A player who stays there gets no weapon progression at all, no matter how many missions they finish. If your rifle has stopped improving, this is almost always the reason — the difficulty table shows the exact breakpoints, and weapon upgrades and prestige covers what happens after the tiers run out.
