Space Marine 2 Assault Build: Chainsword and Jump Pack
Best Assault build in Space Marine 2: Chainsword plus Heavy Bolt Pistol, built on Jump Pack dodges and Ground Pound. When Thunder Hammer is worth it.
The best Assault build in Space Marine 2 Operations is Chainsword with a Heavy Bolt Pistol and a Jump Pack built around Ground Pound and clean dodges. Assault is a mobile melee class with no primary weapon, so a bad jump is punished harder than bad positioning on any other class — the build’s whole point is to enter on your terms, break a target, restore armour through Gun Strikes, and leave before ranged fire deletes you.
Weapons
- Melee: Chainsword for most players. It recovers fast, parries after a short swing, and clears mixed packs without locking you into the slowest rhythm. The Relic Aquilan Dedication (Fencing) is the endgame goal.
- Thunder Hammer is the specialist pick — harder hits, but slower. Take it only if you plan to level it from the start, because Chainsword XP never becomes Thunder Hammer XP.
- Sidearm: Heavy Bolt Pistol. Reliable burst in the short windows between jumps; Bolt Pistol is easier, Plasma Pistol gives charged value.
Perks (Operations PvE)
Core: Armour Reinforcement (non-finisher Gun Strikes restore armour), Knowledge of the Enemy (melee damage into Majoris/Extremis), Defense Mechanism (slower contested-health fade). Team: Proven Efficiency (squad Gun Strike damage). Gear: Precision Strike, Zealous Blow, Pride in Duty. Signature: Commitment (refunds a Jump Pack charge on a perfect dodge). Prestige: Unyielding Oath, Duellist, Fortitude, Hammer of Wrath.
Jump Pack play
Use the leap to break bad positions, not to chase kills. After a perfect Jump Pack dodge, Commitment and Aerial Grace turn the dodge into a damage window, so the rotation is: dodge → Gun Strike the opened target → Ground Pound the cluster → leave. The Assault class guide covers jump-pack timing; the melee weapons guide compares the Thunder Hammer’s cleave against the Chainsword’s speed.
The trap to avoid
Do not tunnel one enemy mid-swing. A missed Ground Pound lands you in more enemies than you can handle. Pick the landing zone before you leap — Assault’s value is aggression aimed, not random leaping.
