Space Marine 2 Bolt Rifle: Which Mark to Use
The bolt rifle family splits four ways: Heavy Bolt Rifle for ammo and firepower, Stalker for marksman range, and Bolt Carbine for close quarters.
The bolt rifle family in Space Marine 2 is not one weapon — it is four marks that solve four different problems, and the “best” one is the one matching your range. The plain bolter stays the default, but once you want a specific role the bolt rifle marks beat it.
The four marks
- Heavy Bolt Rifle — the best all-rounder: highest firepower, biggest magazine, most generous ammo. It is the recommended general primary for Tactical and the standout choice for Vanguard. Its only weakness is accuracy, which perks can patch.
- Stalker Bolt Rifle — a semi-auto marksman. Play it like a pseudo-sniper: deliberate headshots, strong single-shot damage, but very limited ammo. Best with the Emperor’s Revenge perk.
- Bolt Carbine — a fast close-quarters SMG. Best within roughly ten metres; outside that, fire in short bursts. The full-auto branch wants control and accuracy perks (Honed Precision, Adamantine Grip); the Marksman branch wants Head Hunter and ammo sustain.
- Standard / Auto Bolt — solid but outclassed; the Standard has a grenade-launcher variant worth a look, the Auto Bolt is the weakest of the family after recent buffs.
Perks that matter
For the Heavy Bolt Rifle stack Extended Magazine, Magazine Restoration, Perpetual Precision and the faction Eliminator perk for your next Operation. For the Carbine, prioritise control and headshots. Relic versions to chase: Ophelian Liberation (Alpha) for the Heavy Bolt Rifle, Gathalamor Crusade for accuracy.
Which class
Tactical and Vanguard both get the bolt rifle family. Tactical’s Auspex Scan supports direct damage and target focus; Vanguard uses the Heavy Bolt Rifle’s ammo to stay mobile. The best weapons guide explains why role beats base stats, and the weapons list has the full inventory.
