Space Marine 2 Rubric Marines: Teleporting Ranged Threats

Rubric Marines teleport and shoot, which drains armour from angles nobody watches. How to close on a target that keeps leaving.

The problem they create

They teleport. A target that relocates is a target you cannot suppress, which means you cannot establish dominance over a room simply by winning the first exchange. They shoot from range. Every second they are alive is armour damage, and armour is the resource that decides missions. They come in groups. Two Rubrics covering different angles is a crossfire, and a crossfire is what actually kills squads in Chaos missions.

How to fight them

Close the distance. Their advantage is range. Inside their spacing, the teleport gains them less and your melee or close-range weapon does more. Clear them before the objective. Chaos missions punish players who push a terminal while Rubrics are alive — the Operations list notes that the Chaos-heavy missions are the ones where spacing matters most. Watch the flamer variant. A Warpflamer Rubric melts armour at close range, which is the opposite of what you expect from a ranged unit. Do not walk into one assuming you have closed the gap safely. Use cover that blocks the angle, not just the shot. Stepping behind a pillar that a second Rubric can see from the side is not cover.

The parry is still the answer

When a Rubric commits to melee, the normal rules apply: parry, Gun Strike, execute. Chaos units are not exempt from the parry loop — they just spend less time in it than Tyranids do. That distinction is worth internalising: against Tyranids the parry is the primary damage source, against Chaos it is a defensive tool you use when they come to you. The parry timing page covers the windows.

Squad answer

Ranged classes clear Rubrics efficiently; melee classes should be pushing them rather than duelling at distance. A squad that lets three Rubrics shoot for a full wave arrives at the boss phase with no armour, which is the actual cause of most Chaos mission failures.
