Space Marine 2 Sniper: The Cloak Is a Reset Button
Camo Cloak conceals you until your next attack, which makes it a threat reset rather than a damage buff. How to play the priority-target class.
What the cloak actually does
Camo Cloak conceals you until your next attack. Read that literally: the cloak ends when you shoot. So the value is not the shot you take from concealment, it is the ability to stop being the target. That reframes the whole class. A Sniper that cloaks, lines up a headshot, fires, and then stands in the open has spent the cooldown on one kill and is now the most vulnerable player in the squad. A Sniper that fires, gets focused, cloaks, repositions, and fires again has removed a Majoris from the fight and forced the horde to re-acquire. The second pattern is the one that survives on Ruthless and above. Treat the cloak as a repositioning tool with a damage bonus attached, not the other way round.
What the class is for
Priority targets. A shielded Zoanthrope pair, a Sorcerer, a Terminator, a boss phase — the Sniper is the answer to “this one thing must die now”. That is why the class feels useless in a swarm and essential in the ten seconds that decide a mission. The practical rule for a squad: when an Extremis spawns, the Sniper calls it and everybody else keeps the horde off. If the Sniper is instead clearing Gaunts, the squad has no answer to the thing that will actually kill it.
Positioning
Height, distance, and an exit. The Sniper wants a line to the fight and a route out of it, because two armour segments will not survive being reached. Standing at the back of the arena is not the same as standing safely — the back of the arena is where a Lictor spawns. Rotate after every two or three shots. A Sniper that has been in the same window for a full wave has told every player and every ranged enemy where the Sniper is.
Levelling and perks
The class’s signature perks are what turn it from a rifle into a threat. The best-known example is the one that keeps the cloak active after a stealth kill, which converts the reset into a chain — kill, stay hidden, kill again. That is the perk to buy first. Until you have it, the Sniper is a fair class with a long cooldown. Do not conclude the class is weak on a fresh tree; see the perk page for the buying order and the Requisition rule.
Squad fit
Pairs naturally with Bulwark or Heavy, both of which can hold a line while the Sniper works. It is a poor pick in a squad with no frontline, because the Sniper cannot create space — only exploit it. Against Chaos in particular, the class earns its slot: Rubric Marines and Terminators are exactly the targets a single high-damage shot is for, which is why the Chaos-heavy missions in the Operations list are where a Sniper changes the outcome rather than just the kill count.
