Stalker 2 Best Weapons: What to Keep and What to Drop
There is no single best gun in the Zone. The four roles a loadout has to cover, and the cheapest way to cover them.
The question is wrong
Asking which weapon is best in Stalker 2 is like asking which tool is best in a workshop. The Zone throws mutants at close range, humans at medium range, and armoured targets that need penetration. A loadout that answers one of those is a loadout that fails the other two.
Four jobs to cover
Close range against mutants: something with fast follow-up and a large magazine. Shotguns and submachine guns. Medium range against humans: a rifle with controllable recoil and decent accuracy. This is the workhorse slot. Long range and armour: a scoped rifle with penetrating ammunition. Needed for the open maps and for the fights you should be starting from distance. Backup: a pistol that shares ammunition with the primary, so you are never dry.
Ammunition beats stats
A mediocre rifle with good ammunition outperforms an excellent rifle with bad ammunition against armoured opponents. In Stalker 2, penetration decides fights more often than damage. That means the weapon you keep should be the one whose ammunition you can actually find and afford.
Weight is the real constraint
Every weapon and every box of ammunition adds weight, and weight limits what you can carry out. A loadout of four weapons is a loadout that cannot loot. Two weapons plus a pistol is the practical maximum for most players. The third weapon is usually the one that gets left behind.
Repair economics
Weapons degrade and repair costs money. An exotic weapon you cannot afford to maintain is worse than a common one you can. That is the argument for the ordinary rifle: it is accurate enough, its ammunition is everywhere, and repairing it does not cost a fortune.
What to actually carry
A shotgun or submachine gun for interiors, a rifle for everything else, and a pistol as backup. Swap the rifle for a scoped one when the map is open. That is a boring answer and it is the one that survives the Zone.
