Stalker 2 Early Gear: The First Ten Hours
The starting kit is briefly adequate and then is not. What to buy, in what order, and what to ignore.
The starting kit has an expiry date
Your initial weapon and armour are enough for the first area and not enough for the second. The transition is the moment most players get stuck, because the game does not tell them the kit has stopped working. Recognising that moment is the skill: if fights are costing more healing than you are finding, the kit is the problem.
Armour first, weapon second
Armour keeps you alive long enough to use whatever weapon you have. A better weapon with no protection means you die before the weapon matters. The first purchase should be a suit that stops the ammunition the local enemies actually use, even if it is heavy and ugly.
Weapon second, ammunition always
The weapon upgrade matters less than the ammunition. A mid-tier rifle with penetrating rounds beats a high-tier rifle with whatever was in the box. Buy ammunition in bulk every time you pass a trader who sells it. It is the one purchase that never stops being useful.
What not to buy early
Exotic weapons you cannot maintain. Overpowered gear sold at a premium that you will lose in the next anomaly field. Anything that requires ammunition you cannot find. The early economy is unforgiving, and a bad purchase can set you back hours.
Artifacts and weight
Artifacts change your build and they are the main progression axis. But carrying too many turns you into a slow target, and being slow in the Zone is fatal. Two or three artifacts that support your role beats five that each do something small.
The cheap upgrades that matter
Repair your gear before it breaks rather than after. Keep a spare weapon of the same calibre so you are never disarmed by a jam or a repair bill. And keep the armour’s condition up, because degraded armour protects far less.
