STALKER 2 Detectors: Finding Artifacts Without Dying

Artifacts are invisible without a detector, and the detector tells you where to look but not what is about to kill you. How to run a field.

What the detector does

Equipped and held, it responds to artifacts in the area with increasing signal as you get closer. It does not mark the artifact on your map, it does not tell you what the artifact is, and it does not warn you about the anomaly field you are standing in. The workflow is therefore a three-part loop: sweep with the detector, move in the direction the signal strengthens, and watch the ground and air for anomalies the whole time.

Better detectors, better signals

Detector tiers change what you can perceive. A basic unit gives you a direction and a rough proximity; better units distinguish signal from noise and reach further, which matters because a stronger detector lets you plan a route through a field instead of walking blindly into the middle of it. Upgrading the detector is one of the highest-value purchases in the game for a player who intends to farm artifacts, because it multiplies the rate at which you find them rather than adding a one-off bonus.

Anomalies are the actual danger

The field around an artifact is defended. Anomaly types behave differently — some are static, some move, some are triggered by movement or by metal — and the anomaly types page covers what each does. Two habits keep you alive: Throw bolts ahead of you. A bolt reveals a triggered anomaly at a distance, which is exactly what you want before walking into a field you cannot see. Listen. Anomalies are audible before they are visible. The sound design is the warning system, and playing with headphones is a mechanical advantage rather than a preference.

What to do with what you find

Artifacts go into armour slots, and the artifacts page covers what each does. The economic rule is that an artifact you cannot use is worth selling, and one you can use is worth more than the money. Radiation is the constraint: many artifacts emit it and some clear it, so a field run is also a decision about how many anti-radiation drugs you are carrying. The healing page covers the consumable side.

The route mindset

Farm fields you have already scouted, not new ones. A known field is a known risk; an unknown field is a coin flip with a detector in your hand. Once a field is cleared, the PDA marker you left there turns it into a repeatable stop on a route.
