STALKER 2 Mutant Loot: What Is Worth the Weight

Not every mutant drops something, and most drops are worth less than their weight. Which parts to take and which to leave on the ground.

The basic problem

Mutants drop body parts, and those parts sell. But weight is the binding constraint in this game, and a part that weighs a lot and sells for little is worse than an empty slot — because the empty slot could have held ammunition or a lighter item with better value. So the question is never “is this worth anything”. It is “is this worth more than the thing I would carry instead”.

Which to take

Small, high-value parts. Anything that fits easily and sells well is worth taking every time. These are what a mutant run is actually for. Rare parts from dangerous mutants. If you killed something that nearly killed you, its part is usually the payoff. Take it if the weight is manageable. Anything you need for a task. Task items have a fixed destination, which makes them worth space regardless of sale value — the quest items logic covers what blocks a task.

Which to leave

Heavy parts from common mutants. The maths rarely works: a large part from something that spawns constantly is a weight tax for a small payout. Anything that pushes you into a heavier weight bracket. Crossing a weight threshold costs stamina on every subsequent step, which means it costs more than the sale price over the rest of the raid.

The trade with humans

Human enemies usually carry better value per kilogram — ammunition, medical items, and weapons that can be sold or stripped. Which means a raid spent hunting mutants is a raid with a worse loot profile than one spent fighting people. That is why mutant hunting is not a money strategy on its own. It is what happens while you are travelling, and the parts you take should be the ones that did not cost you a detour. The mutants page covers which are worth engaging at all, and the loot economics page covers the broader income picture.

The habit

Check the weight before you check the value. If picking something up moves you into a heavier bracket, put it back. A player who arrives at a trader with a light bag full of small parts consistently out-earns one who carried a single trophy across two regions.
