STALKER 2 PDA: The Menu That Runs the Game

The PDA holds the map, tasks, messages and your own notes. How to read markers, track a route, and why the map rewards marking things yourself.

What is in it

The map. Terrain, settlements, and the markers the game has placed. It does not label everything, and it does not tell you what is dangerous — that is the part you fill in. Tasks. The active objectives, with markers that appear in the world. A tracked task puts a marker on your map and a direction on your compass, which is the only reliable way to find a specific building in a region that looks the same everywhere. Messages and notes. Quest text, radio messages, and the information that explains why you are going somewhere. Reading them is optional and is the difference between following a marker and understanding it. Your own markers. Placed notes on the map. This is the underused feature: marking a stash, a technician, an anomaly field, or a route you want to remember converts a one-off discovery into knowledge.

Tracking properly

Only one task is tracked at a time in the world markers, so the order matters. Track the task whose location you are nearest, complete it, then switch. Leaving a distant task tracked means walking toward the wrong thing for the whole session. The map also zooms, and at the closest zoom level the terrain detail is enough to plan a route around a hazard rather than through it. That is worth doing before a long walk — the map guide covers which regions punish a careless route.

What the PDA cannot tell you

Where mutants are. Nothing marks them. You learn a region’s population by walking it and remembering. Whether a route is safe. A straight line on the map can cross an anomaly field, a radiation pocket, or a mutant nest. The PDA shows terrain, not danger. What a stash needs. Stashes are discovered rather than listed, and the ones that unlock from notes or bodies are the reason to read messages — the stash page covers how they surface.

The habit worth building

Mark everything you find. A technician, a stash, a good anomaly field, a building with loot — one button, once, and the map becomes yours rather than the game’s. Players who say the Zone is impossible to navigate are usually not marking anything, and then walking the same three kilometres repeatedly. The zone order page explains the progression; the PDA is how you execute it.
