World stashes: how they are found

You do not find them by searching. You find them by acquiring the location: reading a note on a corpse, picking up a document, listening to a message. Once acquired, the marker appears and the container can be opened. That is why two players on the same map have different stash markers. Looting bodies and reading every note is the actual mechanic, and it is why thorough exploration pays in a way that just walking a route does not.

What is inside

Contents scale with where the stash is, not with how hard it was to find. Military locations hold better gear than a hollow log in a starting area. Some stashes contain unique weapons or armour that cannot be bought, which is the only category worth a long detour.

Why the route matters more than the loot

Most stash contents are worth less than the ammunition you spend getting there. The value is what the stash sits near: a marker inside a military complex gives you a reason to clear the complex, and clearing the complex is where the real loot is. So treat a stash marker as a destination on a loop, not as an objective. Plan the loop so the stash is on the way, loot everything else en route, and skip markers that require a detour through mutant territory.

Duplicates and the personal stash

Anything you do not need on this trip goes into the personal stash at a base. Weapons you are not using, spare armour, excess ammunition. That keeps your carry weight down and your inventory legible. Sell duplicates rather than storing them. Ten identical rifles in a box are ten rifles you will never use โ€” see the money page for what actually sells and the weight artifact page for why carrying more is usually the wrong answer.

The habit

Read everything you loot. The stash locations are inside the notes you are already picking up, and players who skip reading are playing a game with fewer containers in it. That single habit converts a map from a set of enemy positions into a map of objectives.
