Apex Energy Weapons in Season 30: Regen Ammo Explained
Energy guns in Season 30 carry regenerating ammo that refills over 18 seconds. Which energy weapons are worth it and where the system punishes you.
Season 30 removed energy ammo boxes from the ground. Instead, energy weapons — Havoc, Nemesis, Volt, Devotion, RE-45, Triple Take and L-STAR — carry their own internal reserve that regenerates one magazine every ~18 seconds. The Volt and RE-45 hold only two magazines of reserve. This is the single biggest reason the weapon meta shifted.
Why it changed the meta
The free inventory space is nice, but the cost is real:
- Long fights punish you. Run dry and you wait ~18 seconds for a magazine back.
- Third parties are brutal. A second squad arriving while you’re reloading an empty energy gun is a death sentence.
- It caps energy guns at A tier, not S — they dominate a single engage, then go quiet.
Which energy weapons are worth it
- Nemesis (AR, floor) — strong burst mid-range and unusually easy to keep firing; sits at the top of the energy ARs.
- Volt (SMG, floor) — the easiest energy SMG at range, no longer needs floor ammo. Limited to two magazines of reserve, so pick your fights.
- HAVOC (AR, floor) — high-output entry fighting; pairs well with the regen system.
- Devotion (LMG, floor) — gains the most from the energy stockpile once spun up.
- L-STAR (LMG, care package) — best close-to-mid energy gun when you can grab the drop; runs on the same regenerating stockpile.
When to use them
Energy guns are excellent when you expect one decisive fight and can reposition between engagements. They are risky when you expect to hold an angle or survive multiple squads. If your plan is “camp and third-party,” a non-energy gun with deep reserves (Flatline, R-301, Prowler) is safer.
