ARC Raiders Mutations: The Special ARC Units
Some ARC machines are not the standard patrol. What the mutated and specialist units do differently and how to read them.
Not every machine is the same
Most ARC units follow a predictable patrol-and-shoot pattern, but the mutated and specialist variants break it. They hit harder, behave oddly, or appear in places the standard units do not, and players who treat them as ordinary are the ones who die to the first difference. The enemy threat page covers the baseline. This one is about the units that are not baseline.
Read the behaviour, not the shape
A mutated unit often signals its danger through movement rather than size. The one that crosses ground it should not, or fires on a pattern the others do not, is the one to respect before engaging. Against these, the normal rule of break-line-of-sight-and-reposition still works, but the window is shorter, so the decision to engage has to come earlier.
The large encounters are a different fight
The biggest ARC threats are not just bigger versions of the small ones. They change the terms of the fight, usually by forcing you to hold ground you would rather leave. The large ARC guide covers those specifically, and the mutants are the bridge between the patrols and them.
Do not fight them in the open
Specialist units punish the open field more than the standard ones do, because their damage output is higher and their range is often longer. Use cover the way the combat guide describes, and treat any engagement as one you should have avoided if a quieter route existed.
Know when to skip
Mutations guarding loot you do not need are not a fight, they are a toll. The efficient player walks around them, because the loot behind a dangerous unit is only worth it if the stash actually needs it.
Identify first, then engage
Mutation threats are variants that behave differently from the base enemy, so identify the change before committing your usual tactic, because last week’s counter may not work. The enemy threat guide maps the common types, and the large arc guide covers the bigger ones. The combat guide stresses adapting mid-fight.
Respect the new damage
Some mutations hit harder or apply a new status, so treat the first encounter as a read, not a fight, and adjust before you push. The armor guide helps you survive the surprise.
