Best SMG in Black Ops 7 (Season 6)
Which BO7 SMG to run in Season 6 — VMP, Kogot-7, Sturmwolf 45, Ryden 45K and Dravec 45 compared on close-range TTK, velocity and ADS.
SMGs are where Black Ops 7 rewards aggression. The whole point of the class is to win the first shot inside buildings and on the move, so the stat that matters most is close-range TTK paired with ADS and sprint-to-fire speed — not raw damage. In Season 6 Multiplayer the SMG pool has a clear king and a tight group of strong chasers. Numbers below are the live Season 6 MP snapshot (CODMunity weekly meta, 2026-10-19, cross-checked with MetaRadar’s close-range TTK and The Click’s October 3 tier data). Close-range TTK is against 150 HP, no attachments; velocity is m/s; ADS is ms.
The Season 6 MP SMG ladder (real numbers)
| SMG | Close TTK | Bullet vel. | ADS | Meta tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VMP | 252 ms | 470 | 185 | Top SMG |
| Kogot-7 | 248 ms | 564 | 172 | Absolute Meta |
| Sturmwolf 45 | 279 ms | 376 | 176 | Strong |
| Ryden 45K | 260 ms | 461 | 162 | Strong |
| Dravec 45 | 276 ms | — | — | Very Good |
Kogot-7 actually posts the fastest close-range TTK in the class (248 ms) and the highest bullet velocity of any SMG here (564 m/s), which is why it reaches further than most SMGs. VMP is the overall meta leader because its handling and fire rate make it the safest aggressive pick, and it is a free unlock on page 3 of the Season 6 Battle Pass.
VMP — the default aggressive pick
VMP leads the Season 6 SMG meta for a reason: fast handling, high fire rate, and light falloff at range. Because it is a free Battle Pass unlock, there is no reason not to level it first. Its close-range build leans on a suppressor, a short barrel, a quickstep foregrip, a tactical grip and a mobility pad so you can strafe and challenge objectives. If you want one SMG to main, this is it.
Kogot-7 — fastest TTK, longest reach
Kogot-7’s 564 m/s velocity lets it stay competitive past typical SMG range, so it doubles as a pusher and a flanker. Its weakness is vertical recoil, so build for recoil control (a ported comp and a stability grip) rather than more range. It is the better choice than VMP if your fights tend to happen at 10–20 m rather than point blank.
Sturmwolf 45 and Ryden 45K — the mobility duo
Sturmwolf 45 is a classic run-and-gun SMG with good close TTK (279 ms) and a 376 m/s velocity; a conversion kit variant trades some close TTK for a competitive 300 ms out to 26 m. Ryden 45K has the fastest ADS of the group (162 ms) and a 260 ms close TTK, making it the clean-tracking player’s SMG — if your aim is clean, it feels snappier than anything else here.
Dravec 45 — the safe all-rounder
Dravec 45 sits one tier below but is easy to control and works at close-to-mid range. It is a good second SMG while you level VMP or Kogot-7, and it pairs naturally with a longer-range AR as a secondary.
Ranked, Warzone and the rest
Ranked Play uses a restricted SMG pool, so the open-MP ladder above does not always apply there — check the Ranked Play weapon rules before committing. In Warzone, REV-46 and MPC-25 sit in the META tier (MPC-25 got a Season 6 max-damage-range buff to 13.5 m), but those values assume armour and longer engagements and should not be copied into Multiplayer.
Build it right
SMGs live and die on handling, so prioritise ADS, sprint-to-fire and recoil control over range. The attachment philosophy guide covers the three universal best-in-slot parts and how to tune them per weapon, and the full weapon list places each SMG in the 13-gun class.
Timing note
This is the Season 6 Multiplayer state as of mid-October 2026. SMGs get tuned frequently, and a velocity or range buff can promotion a chaser into the top spot overnight — verify against the live meta before a tournament grind.
