Best Sniper Rifle in Black Ops 7 (Season 6)
The Season 6 sniper pick in BO7 — Hawker HX versus VS Recon, Shadow SK and Strider 300, with one-shot ranges, velocity and a quickscope build.
Snipers in Black Ops 7 split into two very different weapons: bolt-actions that kill in one shot but force you to reposition after every miss, and semi-autos that let you chain shots but need two to drop an unarmored target at range. Picking the wrong type for your playstyle hurts more than picking the “wrong” gun. In Season 6 Multiplayer the ladder is settled. Numbers are the live S6 MP snapshot (CODMunity tier list and MetaRadar, checked October 2026).
Hawker HX — the Season 6 sniper king
Hawker HX is the Absolute Meta sniper in Season 6 and the one every tier list puts first. It is a bolt-action with a 960 m/s velocity and a 7-round magazine. Against an unarmored 150-HP target it kills in one shot at every range: 300 head / 165 body inside 78 m, and 290 head / 159 body past 78 m. That one-shot certainty is why it leads — but at 48 RPM you cannot afford to miss, and the small mag punishes prolonged fights, so pair it with an aggressive secondary for close quarters.
The standard Multiplayer quickscope build trades raw range for speed: a suppressor, a long Votive barrel, a light rear grip, a 1mW instinct laser and a Light Bolt to raise fire cadence. The goal is to peek, snap and relocate, not to hardscope a lane all round.
Semi-auto alternatives — VS Recon, Shadow SK, Strider 300
If the bolt-action rhythm does not fit you, the A-Tier semi-autos are credible: VS Recon, Shadow SK and Strider 300 all sit one tier below Hawker HX. They let you take a quick second shot, which is forgiving when targets strafe, but none reaches the one-shot certainty of the Hawker at long range. VS Recon even has a ricochet conversion for a different playstyle. Pick one of these if you miss often with the bolt gun — a sniper you can hit with beats a stronger one you whiff with.
What to avoid
XR-3 Ion is the D-Tier sniper in Season 6 — awkward handling and weak feel. Skip it unless you are grinding a camo.
Bolt-action or semi-auto — the real decision
Do not just ask “which is the best sniper.” Ask which rhythm you can sustain:
- Bolt-action (Hawker HX): one-shot kills, slow cadence, punishes misses. Best for holding one sightline and relocating.
- Semi-auto (VS Recon / Shadow SK): two shots to kill, fast follow-up, more forgiving. Best for aggressive sniping and moving targets.
Cross-mode warning
The sniper ladder above is Multiplayer. Ranked Play restricts the weapon pool (see the Ranked Play rules), and Warzone adds armour and longer sightlines, so a Warzone sniper build is not a Multiplayer build. The attachment philosophy guide covers how to tune velocity versus handling, and the full weapon list shows the five-gun sniper pool.
Timing note
This reflects the Season 6 Multiplayer meta as of October 2026. Sniper balance moves less than the AR/SMG classes, but a velocity or one-shot-range change still flips the king — verify before a competitive grind.
