Destiny 2 God Rolls: How to Judge Any Weapon Roll
A god roll is not a fixed perk list. Run this four-question test on any Destiny 2 drop before you dismantle it.
The roll everyone calls a god roll is usually the roll that fits somebody else’s build. That is the whole problem with god roll lists.
A perk you cannot trigger is worse than a boring perk you trigger every few seconds. Uptime beats peak damage almost every time.
The four questions
Ask these in order on any drop. They work on reissued classics and brand-new weapons alike.
1. What is this weapon already good at?
Do not fix a weakness. A hand cannon will never be a scout rifle, so range perks on a short-range frame are wasted.
2. Which column holds the damage perk?
Damage in the third column leaves the fourth free for utility. Damage in the fourth means the third column has to set it up.
3. Can you trigger it where you actually play?
A perk that needs multikills is dead in a boss room and strong in a strike. Match the perk to the activity.
4. Does it need your subclass?
Some perks are self-contained. Others only pay off on Void or Strand. Know which one you are holding.
Kindled Orchid
This Void hand cannon is the clearest example. Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds together make a loop.
One perk makes targets volatile, the other gives you an overshield for killing them. The loop runs on any subclass.
Kill Clip with Rampage is the famous old pairing. It needs rapid kills to stack, which is easy in six-player activities.
In a boss fight it does nothing at all. So the “god roll” depends entirely on where you take the gun.
Both are correct answers to different questions, which is exactly why a single list misleads people.
Mint Retrograde
The rocket-assisted pulse rifle has a small magazine. Every serious roll for it solves that problem first.
Perks that refill the magazine from reserves matter more here than raw damage. Reloading is where this weapon loses its output.
It is also a projectile weapon, and projectiles miss moving players. That is why it never really worked in the Crucible.
A perfect PvP roll on it is still worse than a plain shotgun. Do not farm one for Trials.
Velocity Baton
Same test, no shortcuts. Read the frame, find which column carries the damage, then decide whether your build triggers it.
Check its current perk pool in the inspect screen rather than trusting a screenshot from an older season. Perk values move with balance passes.
When to keep a “bad” roll
Keep a second copy if you play both modes. The PvE roll and the PvP roll on one weapon are often different columns entirely.
Keep anything with a damage perk in the third column. Those pair with more things later.
Dismantle the rest without guilt. Vault space is the real constraint, and the vault management guide covers triage.
Where the numbers live
Read the description in the inspect screen instead of memorising percentages. Community sources track the current patch if you want detail.
The weapon perks guide explains what each perk category does. The best legendary weapons guide narrows which archetypes deserve the farm.
Farming one specific roll means targeting one activity. The farm gear fast guide covers doing that without burning a whole evening.
