Destiny 2 Catalysts: How to Farm Every Exotic Catalyst
Where each Destiny 2 exotic catalyst drops, why yours isn't appearing, and how to track missing ones in-game.
You own the exotic. The catalyst still won’t drop. That is not a bug.
Bungie’s final Monument of Triumph update added 26 new catalysts and reworked 9 older ones. None of them can appear until you already hold the weapon. Own the gun first, then the catalyst can fall.
Most catalysts come from ritual play. Vanguard Ops, Crucible, and Gambit each drop their tied catalysts. The Seasonal Hub’s Exotic Orders also hand some out as repeatable goals. Pick the playlist you already run.
Raid and dungeon catalysts are stricter. They drop from the activity’s final boss only. Conditional Finality comes off Master Nezarec in Root of Nightmares. Divinity drops from Garden of Salvation. Xenophage comes from Pit of Heresy. Know the boss before you queue.
Track what you lack from one menu. Open Collections, then the Patterns & Catalysts tab. Pick the Exotic Catalysts sub-tab, the fourth one. It lists every missing catalyst and its exact drop source.
Stop guessing. Read that source, then run the matching activity. If it names a raid boss, our raids guide explains how to prepare.
The most common miss
Players farm for hours and blame luck. The real cause is almost always the weapon. Catalysts never drop for exotics you have not unlocked. Check your vault before you blame the RNG.
Some catalysts also want a specific difficulty or mode. The source line in Collections tells you which one. Read it once and save yourself a wasted night.
Where the reworked ones live
The 9 reworked catalysts share the same rule as the new ones. They only drop once you own the gun, and they follow their listed source. Do not assume an old catalyst still drops from its old spot. Confirm the source in-game first.
Timing your sessions
Ritual catalysts drop during normal play, so farm them whenever you queue those modes. Raid catalysts need a full boss clear, so plan a dedicated run. Some sources rotate with the season, so confirm the current drop point in Collections before you commit.
Don’t chase what you can’t use
A catalyst only matters if the gun stays in your rotation. Skip exotics you never equip. Spend the time on a weapon you actually run. The Collections tab also shows finished catalysts, so you never double-farm the same one.
Build value
A finished catalyst changes how a weapon feels in your loadout. Before you grind, decide if the exotic earns a slot at all. Our how to get exotics page covers the fastest unlock paths.
