Destiny 2 Derealize No Escape Puzzle: How to Solve It

Beat Derealize's No Escape puzzle in the Heresy exotic mission to reach Barrow-Dyad: match each Hive rune to the plate's pointer, then clear all four.

Derealize is the Episode: Heresy exotic mission, and it is the only place Barrow-Dyad, the exotic submachine gun, comes from. Update 9.7.0 moved it out of the old Exotic Rotator and into Pinnacle Ops under Vanguard Ops, so you can launch it directly from the Director with no quest prerequisite, as long as you own the relevant content.

The No Escape puzzle

“No Escape” is not a catalyst. It is the mid-mission objective you hit after defeating the Dread Commander Vrhiisk. You arrive in an Ascendant-style space with four Hive runes and a plate that points a direction. Watch the disc: when the glyph that appears matches the next rune in the sequence, step on the plate and move the way it points. If the glyph is for a later rune, wait for the timer to teleport you to the next room. Clear all four runes to escape and reach the platforming section that leads to Barrow-Dyad.

Catalysts

Four catalysts sit outside Barrow-Dyad’s intrinsic upgrades: Target Lock Refit, One for All Refit, Hatchling Refit, and High-Impact Reserves Refit. Higher difficulties inside the activity pay out catalysts, and you shape the weapon at the Enclave once a pattern is unlocked. Your first clear drops the Deepsight copy needed to learn the pattern.

Build notes

Barrow-Dyad rewards add-clear and close-range DPS. Pair it with a subclass that handles Tormentors and Subjugators, and bring healing for the Vrhiisk relic phases, which are harder solo. If you struggle on the relic, drop to a lower difficulty to learn the timing before pushing for catalyst drops, because a failed boss phase wastes the whole run.

Every source sits in the exotic weapons guide, while how to get exotics ranks which of those paths repay the time.

Catalyst farming order

The four refits are not equally worth chasing first, so the order should follow what the weapon is for. Add-clear refits pay out in rooms this mission already throws at you and make later catalyst runs faster; damage refits only pay in boss phases, which you are already clearing if you can reach them. The efficient loop is therefore to bank the add-clear refit first, then re-run on a higher difficulty with the weapon doing more of the work. Learn the Vrhiisk relic timing on a lower difficulty before pushing for drops, because a failed boss phase costs the whole run rather than the attempt. See Barrow-Dyad and the catalyst guide.
