Destiny 2 max light level: how Power progression works
How Destiny 2 Power progression works after the Monument of Triumph re-scale: soft cap, gear cap, artifact bonus, and what to farm at max.
There is no fixed max light level in Destiny 2, and any hard number from an old guide is probably wrong. The ceiling moved with the Monument of Triumph re-scale, so treat this page as the shape of the ladder rather than a permanent number.
How the Power ladder works now
After the re-scale, every Guardian starts at Power 10. The soft cap sits at 100 and the gear cap at 300. The seasonal artifact pushes the hard cap to 550 on top of that.
Those numbers have been tuned before, so confirm them on your character screen before you plan a long grind. The game always shows your current Power and what still pays out.
Climbing past the soft cap
Below the soft cap, almost any reward raises your Power. Past it, you need Powerful rewards. Those drop from vendor ranks and seasonal challenges, and the Navigator marks many of them directly.
The final stretch to the gear cap runs on Pinnacle rewards from the hardest content. Raids and dungeons top the list. High-tier Nightfalls sit close behind.
Plan around the weekly reset
The weekly reset refreshes bonus sources every Tuesday. Clear the marked sources first, then let the rest of the week fill in. Our power-leveling guide walks through the fastest weekly route.
Do not repeat one playlist hoping for a bump. Once a source pays out, it stops helping, and the hours after that are wasted.
Do not skip the artifact
The seasonal artifact adds bonus Power on top of your gear average. Early artifact levels are the cheapest Power in the game, so grab them before the climb turns slow. Our artifact guide explains how the levels pay out.
What to do at max Power
At the cap, the number stops moving and rolls take over. God rolls and masterworks matter more than another two points of Power. Activity grades reward execution over overleveling, so Ultimate-tier clears still demand clean play and tight add control.
Spend leftover materials on armor masterworks and weapon focusing instead. Both pay off in every activity, while two extra points of Power only matter at the margins.
