Tempest Guide: Combat Roll, Drill Charge, and Reversal

Her anchor rope undoes one lethal mistake per placement. How to time the Combat Roll, land the Drill Charge stun, and cash in the speed trait.

Tempest (Claire Ann Beyers) is an Assault operator from Season 5, and she is the only one in the roster whose job is to survive the play she just made. She has no jetpack and no vertical mobility tool — what she has is a roll that knocks people over, a charge that stuns through walls, and a rope that cancels her own death.

She is Haavk in the fiction. That has no effect on matchmaking: any operator you own can be queued in any mode.

Speed from gunfire

Auxiliary Spine Surge gives her a movement bonus when gunfire is nearby. It is a trait that pays out when things are going badly, which is unusual and worth planning around.

The read: she gets faster exactly when retreating under fire, so the disengage that kills most operators is the one that works for her. Do not treat the buff as a reason to stand in the open — it is a reason to leave faster than the enemy expects.

The anchor rope

Emergency Evasion Device places a safety anchor. When activated, or when she takes lethal damage, it pulls her back to that point.

This is a second life, on a cooldown, and the placement is the skill. Put the anchor somewhere the enemy is not looking — behind a wall, around a corner, on the high side of a drop — because a visible anchor tells the enemy exactly where you will reappear.

Two hard limits: it pulls you back to a fixed point, so an anchor placed in a lane that later fills with enemies relocates you into them; and it does not restore the health you lost. If the pull lands you at 4 HP in the open, you have bought a second to find cover, not a reset.

Combat Roll into Drill Charge

Tactical Combat Roll sends her rolling in a chosen direction and knocks down anyone in the path. Each knockdown cuts the cooldown on her trait, so rolling through a crowd accelerates the next anchor.

Drill Charge is the follow-up: a thrown drill that breaks through surfaces and releases a current that briefly stuns nearby enemies. Through a floor, through a thin wall, into the room the enemy thinks is safe.

Sequence it the other way round when breaching — charge first to stun whoever is inside, roll through the doorway while they are still shaking, and let your squad follow the collision.

Haavk kit, squad role

As Assault she gets faster aim movement than other classes and, in Havoc Warfare, access to the AT4 rocket launcher. That combination — anti-vehicle access plus a roll that closes distance — makes her a workable answer to armour that is sitting just outside a building.

Limits

Her damage is ordinary rifle damage. Nothing in the kit increases it, so playing her as a duelist against a healthier class is a losing plan. Her value is in the entry and the escape, which means she needs a squad that pushes when she pushes. Roll in alone and the anchor just returns you to an empty corner while the squad is still deciding. Pair her with D-Wolf for a second body through the same door, and let Nox take the quiet route while you take the loud one.
