Reload is the limiter

The Autocannon feeds from a backpack and reloads in a slow, exposed animation. Every reload is a window where you are useless, so fire in bursts and reposition while the belt tops off. The support weapons page ranks it against the rest of the pool.

Two ammo types, two jobs

Flak shreds clusters of light enemies and shreds the small stuff; high-explosive punches through armor on devestators and hulks. Swap shells to the threat, because the wrong type bounces or wastes the belt. The enemy armor values page tells you which targets need the explosive round.

Strong against what matters

The Autocannon deletes shrieker nests, drops hulks at range, and clears a breach faster than most primaries. The shrieker counter page explains why an air-capable gun matters on bug fronts. It also kills the cannon turret emplacements that hard-counter foot squads.

Weak past close range

Up close the reload and the muzzle make it a liability, and a charger in your face is a dead Autocannon. Keep space, and pair it with a primary that owns the close fight. The best primary weapons page covers that pairing.

Aim for the weak point, not the center

The Autocannon’s explosive round does more through a weak point than a center mass hit, so learn where each heavy is soft. The enemy armor values page marks the seams. A few aimed shells beat a belt sprayed at the chest, and you reload less.

Carry the flak for the swarm

On bug fronts the Autocannon’s flak round clears a breach faster than the explosive one, so swap before the mission rather than mid-fight. The horde management page covers the same idea. The right shell for the front is the difference between a clean clear and a wipe.
