Helldivers 2 Bugs vs Bots: Two Different Loadouts
Terminids close the distance, Automatons shoot from it. The same loadout cannot answer both, and here is what changes when you switch front.
The one sentence version
Against Terminids you are managing space. Against Automatons you are managing sightlines. Everything else follows from that.
What bugs demand
Terminid pressure is bodies moving toward you. The threat is not accuracy, it is volume, and it arrives at contact range where a slow weapon cannot cycle fast enough. So the primary wants a high rate of fire, a large magazine, or both. Reload time is the hidden stat, because a reload during a breach is the moment the position is lost. Light penetration handles the chaff; medium penetration is only needed for the armored parts. Stratagems want area denial rather than precision. Barrages, mines, and sentries all work because the enemy brings itself into the kill zone. A sentry placed behind a breach does more than any aimed shot. Armor wants speed. Every metre you cannot cover is a metre a Charger covers for free.
What bots demand
Automatons shoot. They shoot from range, they shoot while you reload, and they shoot from angles you have not cleared. Standing in the open for two seconds is the entire failure mode. So the primary wants penetration and precision, not volume. A weapon that cannot punch a Devastator’s plate is a weapon that does nothing to the thing in front of you. Cover discipline replaces movement, and crouching behind a rock is a legitimate combat action rather than a delay. Stratagems want to remove emplacements rather than crowds. Anything that kills a factory strider, a turret tower, or a gunship fabricator changes the fight. Chaff-clearing tools do not, because the chaff is not what kills you here. Armor wants the heaviest rating you can still move in, and explosive resistance matters far more than it does against bugs.
Where the loadouts genuinely diverge
The backpack slot is the clearest tell: Shield Generator Pack against bots, Guard Dog or Jump Pack against bugs. The support weapon slot is the second: anti-tank against bots because armor is everywhere, a crowd-clearing support weapon against bugs because the crowd is the mission. The grenade is the third: impact or incendiary to break a surround, something with penetration to kill through a firing port.
The habit that crosses both fronts
Running one loadout because it worked on the other faction. A build tuned for a bug breach feels dead against a Devastator line - the weapon cannot penetrate, the sentry is shot before it fires, and the crowd tool has nobody to crowd. Keep two saved loadouts and switch at the campaign map, not halfway through an operation.
