Helldivers 2 Durable Damage: The Hidden Second Health Pool
Durable damage is a second health pool on armored parts. Final = (Standard x (1 - Durability)) + (Durable x Durability), and only some weapons exploit it.
The hidden second health pool
Every enemy body part in Helldivers 2 carries two values at once: a normal health pool and a durability percentage. Durability represents how “spongy” the part is. A high-durability part absorbs more of your standard damage and only lets a separate durable-damage stat through. This is why a weapon can look strong on its card and still feel weak against armored targets.
The formula
The damage you actually deal is: Final = (Standard × (1 − Durability)) + (Durable × Durability) Worked example: a part with 20% durability, hit by a weapon dealing 90 standard and 22 durable damage, returns (90 × 0.8) = 72 standard plus (22 × 0.2) = 4.4 durable, for 76.4 total, rounded to 76. If that same weapon had low durable damage, almost the entire hit would have been thrown away against the durable portion.
Why your rifle feels weak
Standard rifle bullets deal only about 10 to 20 percent of their base damage against durable parts such as a Charger’s rear or a Bile Titan’s sac. That is the mechanical reason a primary weapon “bounces” off heavy targets even when the hit marker fires. The fix is not more bullets — it is the right damage type. Explosive and fire damage are treated as 100 percent durable damage, so weapons like the PLAS-1 Scorcher, the R-36 Eruptor, and the AC-8 Autocannon deal full damage to durable body parts where a rifle barely scratches them.
Which weapons bypass it
- High durable damage — explosive and plasma weapons, plus most light-penetration primaries, which tend to carry higher durable stats by design.
- Weak points — precision rifles shine on exposed joints and heads where durability is lower.
- Anti-tank launchers — best against Charger legs and Bile Titan heads because they combine high penetration with high durable output. The armor penetration page explains the separate AP-versus-AV check that decides whether your shot lands at all, and the enemy armor values page lists the weak spots per faction. For why the UI hides all of this, see the hidden weapon stats page.
