Helldivers 2 Stun: The Invisible Buildup Behind Stagger

Stun and stagger build on an invisible per-enemy meter. Hunters go down almost instantly, mediums need sustained fire, and Bile Titans are nearly immune.

The invisible meter

Every enemy carries a stun meter you never see. Each stagger-capable hit adds to it, and the rate differs per weapon — two tools that look identical on paper can behave completely differently against the same target. If you stop hitting the enemy, the meter decays, so burst pressure matters more than a single lucky grenade.

Light enemies: stun almost instantly

Hunters, Troopers, and similar light units have a tiny meter. A single stagger-capable hit is often enough to buy the second you need to reposition or reload. This is why a stun grenade feels like a panic button against a swarm — against the right target, it is.

Medium enemies: sustained commitment

Alpha Commanders, Devastators, and other medium units need real commitment. You need sustained fire or a dedicated stagger stratagem rather than one toss. Treat stagger here as a tool to interrupt an attack animation, not to lock the enemy down.

Tank-class: do not bother

Bile Titans, Factory Striders, and other tank-class units are nearly immune to stun. Trying to stagger one out of an attack animation is mostly wasted effort. Against them, use durable-damage weapons on their legs and weak points instead — see the durable damage page and the enemy armor values page for where to shoot.

Radius and gas

A stun grenade’s stagger reaches a wider area than its visual, so near-misses still build the meter. Gas status also contributes stagger buildup, which is why a gas grenade can lock down light enemies even without a direct hit. Against mediums, layer stun with focused fire rather than relying on a single toss, and never waste it on the tank-class units that shrug it off.
