Hunt 2.9 Scouting Maps and Spyglass: Reveal Map
Update 2.9 hid every Supply Point, Scout Tower and Extraction. Two tools bring them back - Scouting Maps (all Supply Points) and the Spyglass (75m).
Scouting Maps
A Scouting Map reveals hidden location icons in its radius. The 2.9 change that matters: Scouting Maps can now appear at all Supply Points, not just a restricted subset, and Scout Towers still guarantee one inside. So if you divert to a tower you are effectively buying guaranteed map knowledge. The trade-off is the detour itself — a tower or supply run costs time and exposes you, which is exactly the pressure 2.9 was designed to add.
Spyglass
The single-tube scope still reveals hidden location icons on your compass, and the discovery radius was raised to 75m. That means simply approaching a hidden location with a Spyglass up can pop its icon before you arrive. For a solo hunter or a squad that wants to avoid looting detours, a Spyglass is now one of the highest-value tools in the loadout, because it converts movement you were already doing into map information.
Clue vs tool: which to use
If you are on a bounty, clues already reveal two extractions and you may not need a tool detour at all. Tools matter most when: you are not hunting a boss, the revealed extractions are unsafe, or you want supply and tower knowledge for looting rather than just exiting. The 2.9 hidden-info page frames the whole system, and the solo route guide shows how a Spyglass-heavy plan works for one person.
Bottom line
Carry a Spyglass by default in 2.9, and treat a Scout Tower visit as a deliberate “buy the map” play rather than a freebie. Information is no longer handed to you at spawn — it is something you earn by diverting, scoping, or clue-hunting, and the teams that internalize that earn safer extractions.
