Hunt 2.9: Extractions and Scout Towers Hidden
Update 2.9 changed Hunt's key map rule: Supply Points, Scout Towers and Extractions no longer show at start. What changed and what to do instead.
What is hidden now
Per the official 2.9 patch notes, three location types are no longer shown at mission start:
- Extraction Points — the exits you need to survive the 30-second countdown.
- Supply Points — the loot and tool caches scattered across the map.
- Scout Towers — the towers that formerly guaranteed a free Scouting Map. You start each mission knowing almost nothing about where you can leave, which is the entire point of the change: Crytek’s stated goal was to push information behind exploration and reduce the “optimal route decided before interacting with the match” problem.
How you reveal them
The map is not blindly dark — there are four concrete ways to pull location icons back into view:
- Investigate a Clue — this now reveals two Extraction Points specifically. If you are running a bounty, your clue chain doubles as your exit plan.
- Scouting Maps — these reveal hidden info and can now appear at all Supply Points (previously restricted), and Scout Towers still guarantee one inside.
- Spyglass — the single-tube scope still reveals hidden location icons on your compass, within a 75m discovery radius (raised from the old value).
- Destiny’s Dial — a random reward chance to reveal all hidden locations at once.
What this means for your opening
You can no longer pick the “best” extraction on spawn. Your first real decision is whether to hunt clues (which also opens two exits) or to divert to a Supply Point or Scout Tower to buy map knowledge before committing to a long crossing. The clue-reveals page covers how to turn those two revealed extractions into a route, and the Scouting Map and Spyglass page covers the alternative reveal paths. If you play alone, the solo route guide adapts this to a one-person plan. The old-guides page lists exactly which surviving advice is now false, and the Blood Testament overview places this mechanic inside the wider 2.9 update.
