Reputation System in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
How town reputation works in KCD2, why open theft tanks your standing, and perks like Opportunist that soften the blow.
How it works
Each town and region keeps its own reputation rating. Helping people, completing local tasks, and paying debts raise it; crimes lower it. The catch is propagation: steal from a peasant in Trosky and Trosky’s reputation drops, which then colors every interaction there.
The theft trap
Open theft from a visible inventory — grabbing from a person or an unlocked container someone can see — triggers immediate reputation damage that cascades through the whole region. This is the single most common way new players wreck a save’s standing. The stealth guide explains how to steal from chests and homes where no one witnesses the inventory, which avoids the hit entirely.
Softening the fall
- Opportunist (Main 6) — reduces reputation loss on failures, forgiving if you slip up in towns.
- Charming Man / reputation perks raise gains, while Criminal Element (Main 12) makes criminal brands fade faster and lets you sell stolen goods for more.
- A high enough local reputation can outweigh a single mistake, so doing a few good turns before a heist is worth it.
Why it matters for quests
Some quest branches and merchants gate on standing. A town that hates Henry may lock you out of information or a key NPC. Manage reputation the same way you manage stamina: proactively, before the crisis. ## Recovering a bad standing Reputation climbs back through good turns: completing local tasks, paying fines at the bailiff, and helping townsfolk all nudge it upward. A single generous act will not erase a theft spree, but consistent lawful behavior over several quests restores service access. The Opportunist perk softens new mistakes while you rebuild. When in doubt, sleep on a bed (a free save, per the save guide) before any risky social play.
