KCD2 Save System: Autosave, Beds and Saviour Schnapps

The three ways to save

1. Autosave — there is only one autosave slot, and it updates on major quest checkpoints. You cannot rely on it between objectives.
2. Beds — sleeping in any owned or paid inn bed creates a save with no downside. This is the free, safe option.
3. Saviour Schnapps — drinking one creates a manual save. It is the portable option when no bed is nearby. The recipe is Wine + 1 Nettle + 2 Belladonna (see the potion guide for the full steps). The strong version also boosts Strength, Vitality, and Agility.

The Alcoholism catch

Each Saviour Schnapps adds to Henry’s Alcoholism stack. Drink five or more in a row and you get the Drunkard debuff for about 24 hours, which hurts your stats. The fix is to stagger your saves: drink one, do something risky, and only drink another if you survive. Do not try to save-scum by chugging ten.

Practical routine

Plan routes through towns so you sleep at inns — sleeping is cheaper than Schnapps and avoids the Drunkard risk entirely. Brew your own Schnapps in bulk from the alchemy income guide so you are never caught without a save before a risky fight or a point of no return.

Bed saves versus Schnapps

A bed save and a Schnapps save are equivalent for keeping progress, but only the bed is free of the Alcoholism stack. The habit that prevents lost hours is simple: sleep at an inn whenever one is nearby, and reserve Schnapps for the stretches between towns or right before a fight you cannot walk away from. Keep at least five brewed so a dangerous choice never catches you save-less. The discipline that prevents most lost progress: never walk into a known danger (a tough duel, a questionable choice) without a fresh save in hand.
