Ajarakan Hunt Guide: Heavy Arms and a Fiery Back
Ajarakan is a primate built around its forelimbs. Why the arms are both target and threat, how to avoid the grab, and why Water beats fire.
Ajarakan is a Fanged Beast with the build of a mandrill and the upper body of something that lifts trees. Its forelimbs are disproportionately large and muscular, its back carries flame-shaped protrusions, and its whole moveset is organised around hitting you with the front half.
Target and element
The arms are the weak point, which is convenient in one sense and dangerous in another: the part you want to hit is the part it swings. Water and Ice are the elements that work, Fire is resisted — so bringing a Fire weapon to a visibly fiery monster is the trap this fight sets.
The front half is the danger
Everything Ajarakan does comes from the arms. Swings, slams, grabs. Its reach is longer than a quadruped of that size suggests, because the arms are long and it uses them like a person would.
The counter is being at an angle rather than at a distance. Straight in front, you are in range of everything. Beside or behind, most of its moveset cannot reach.
Grabs
Grab attacks are the ones that end hunts, because being held by a monster with that much upper body strength is not survivable for long and you cannot dodge out of it. If you see the grab wind-up, the answer is to already be moving sideways — not to try a late dodge.
Reading the flame silhouette
The flame-shaped protrusions on its back change its outline rather than its hitbox, which means they are a visual distraction more than a mechanic. Do not build a plan around them; watch the arms and the head.
Gear notes
Water or Ice on the weapon. Because the threat is concentrated in the front, weapons with a guard can do well if you are willing to stand and block the swings — but that puts you in the danger zone, so evasion is usually the better trade. Mobility helps more than defence.
Weapons that fit
Fast weapons that can sit at its flank and target the arms do best. Long-reach weapons can hit the arms from outside the swing arc, which is a genuine advantage. Ranged weapons have an easy time with the whole fight, since the weak point is not buried.
