Xu Wu Hunt Guide: Bladed Limbs and a Glowing Underside

Xu Wu fights with six bladed limbs and hides its mouth underneath. Where the weak point actually is, why Ice and Poison work, and how to read its reach.

Xu Wu is a cephalopod built like a weapon: six long limbs studded with golden spikes that function as blades and spears, a hard plated patch on the underside, and the actual mouth hidden beneath the body and glowing blue. It is one of the fights where knowing where the weak point is matters more than raw damage.

Find the mouth

The mouth is underneath. That single fact reorganises the entire fight: you are not trying to hit the head you can see, you are trying to get under a monster that is covered in blades on every other side.

The reward is that the mouth is a genuine weak point, so the awkward positioning pays for itself.

Element

Ice and Poison work. Dragon and Sonic effects are resisted, so a Dragon build — the default answer for a lot of endgame monsters — is the wrong call here.

Reading the limbs

Six bladed limbs means six independent attack lines, and the spikes extend its reach past the visible body. Attacks that look like they will miss connect, especially at the range where you would normally feel safe.

The practical rule is to treat its silhouette as larger than it appears and to approach from angles where fewer limbs can reach you at once, rather than straight in.

The plating

Part of its underside is hard plating rather than soft tissue, so not every hit from below is a good hit. Aim for the mouth specifically instead of assuming “under the body” equals damage.

The offspring

Xu Wu hatches young in numbers. They are not individually dangerous but they add clutter and chip damage. Clear them when they clump, and do not let them pull you out of position under the mouth.

Gear notes

Ice or Poison on the weapon, mobility over defence, and healing you can use quickly. Guard weapons have a hard time here because the threat arrives from multiple angles at once — a guard only faces one.

Confirm elements on the weakness chart, read weakness hitzones for why the underside matters, and see Focus Mode and wounds for landing a wound break on a moving target.
