Space Marine 2 Bulwark Build: Power Sword and Plasma Pistol
Best Bulwark build in Space Marine 2: a Fencing Power Sword with Plasma Pistol. Perks, shield timing, and why Thunder Hammer drops the Storm Shield.
The best Bulwark build in Space Marine 2 Operations is a Fencing Power Sword with a Plasma Pistol and the Storm Shield kept equipped. Bulwark is the squad’s wall, so the build’s job is not to out-damage a Heavy — it is to hold the line, parry Majoris enemies into Gun Strikes, drop the Chapter Banner on time, and revive teammates safely.
Weapons
- Melee: Fencing Power Sword. It is the best all-rounder because Bulwark lives on parries, and Fencing opens the perfect-parry window earliest. Chainsword is the easier learning route (simple timing), but its XP does not level the Power Sword, so pick one family and commit.
- Sidearm: Plasma Pistol. Charged shots give Bulwark a real answer to Zoanthropes, flying enemies, and ranged Majoris it cannot chase. Heavy Bolt Pistol is the simpler point-and-shoot alternative.
- Skip Thunder Hammer early. Patch 8 added it as a trade: equipping it removes the Storm Shield, Shield Bash, and Shield Rush. That is a different, shieldless build — strong if you want two-handed hits, but it drops your core defensive identity.
Perks (Operations PvE)
Core: Armour Reinforcement (Gun Strikes restore an armour segment), Defensive Mastery (a perfect parry can throw an Extremis into execution), Knowledge of the Enemy (more melee damage into Majoris/Extremis). Team: Proven Efficiency (squad Gun Strike damage). Gear: Precision Strike, Zealous Blow, Pride in Duty. Signature: Commitment or Defensive Mastery depending on route. Prestige: Unyielding Oath, Duellist, Fortitude, Hammer of Wrath.
Shield timing
The defence button raises the Storm Shield first and parries with the weapon on a quick tap. Hold too long and you are blocking, not parrying — and blocking does not open Gun Strikes. Tap for the parry, hold only to walk through fire or cover a revive. The parry timing guide explains why Fencing is forgiving here.
How to play it
Stand where enemies must face your shield, parry instead of blocking every hit, drop the Chapter Banner just before an execution or revive, and shoot flying threats with the Plasma Pistol before they force the squad out of position. Full class mechanics are on the Bulwark class guide.
