Space Marine 2 Best Weapons: Pick by Role, Not by Tier

The best weapon is the one you can push to Relic in the class you actually play. How the tiers work, which role each weapon family fills.

The upgrade ladder decides more than the base stats

Every weapon moves through four quality tiers: Standard, then Master-Crafted, then Artificer, then Relic. Moving up costs Armoury Data of the right quality plus Requisition, and the Data only drops at specific difficulties — Artificer from Substantial upward, Relic from Ruthless upward. So a mid-tier weapon pushed to Relic beats a nominally better weapon left at Standard, in the same way that a Relic weapon in your main class beats four Artificer weapons in classes you never play. Choose one weapon per class and commit; the Armoury Data page explains the bottleneck.

The four jobs

Clearing Minoris. Fast-firing rifles and anything with a wide sweep. The horde is not a threat because it is tough, it is a threat because it pins you while something else closes. Breaking Majoris. Sustained damage plus the parry-execute loop. Warriors and Rubric Marines die to a parried combo and a Gun Strike far faster than to body shots, so the weapon matters less than the timing — see parry timing by weapon type. Deleting Extremis. This is where weapon choice actually shows. A shielded Zoanthrope pair or a cloaked Lictor needs concentrated damage from a class built for it, which usually means Sniper, Heavy, or a Melta at close range. Anti-armour. Melta weapons trade range for damage against heavy targets, and their falloff is what balances them. If your squad keeps losing to Scarab Occult Terminators or a boss phase, the answer is a Melta in the squad, not more damage from a rifle.

What the class actually allows

Assault and Bulwark carry no primary weapon — sidearm and melee only — so “best weapon” questions aimed at them are really about the pistol and the melee profile. Heavy carries two-handed weapons and no melee, which makes positioning part of the weapon choice. Techmarine’s Servo-Gun is a support tool as much as a gun. That is the constraint that makes tier lists misleading here. A list of the highest-damage weapons is a list of weapons you may not be allowed to equip.

Melta and the patch question

Melta weapons were buffed substantially in a recent patch, with more damage and a shorter falloff, which changed their breakpoint from “usable” to “preferred” in several slots. Because Saber tunes values every patch, any specific ranking ages quickly. The durable advice is by role: bring one answer to armour, one to hordes, and one to elites, and let the squad cover the rest.

Heroic weapons are not a shortcut

Heroic weapons are bought with Accolades, and while they launched as stronger than Relic, the game director describes them as sidegrades that reward a specific playstyle. They are a goal, not a fix. If your build is wrong, a Heroic weapon makes it wrong at a higher tier.
