Space Marine 2 Parry vs Dodge: Which to Use
Parry and dodge look like the same button with a different name. They are not. Knowing which one to press decides whether you open a gun-strike or eat the hit.
Parry creates the opening
A successful parry staggers the attacker and opens a gun-strike window, which is the highest-damage moment in melee. The parry timing guide covers the input windows; the point here is that parry is offensive. You parry to start a kill, not just to survive. The parry not working page fixes the most common input mistakes. Most “broken” parries are early or late presses.
Dodge creates distance
Dodge is the defensive option. It moves you out of a hit you cannot parry, usually an unblockable or a swarm attack. The perfect dodge gun strike page shows that a well-timed dodge also opens a gun-strike, but its first job is escape, not aggression. Use dodge when the attack cannot be parried, and parry when it can. Mixing them up is how players take hits they could have turned into kills.
Match the tool to the enemy
Heavily telegraphed single hits are parry fodder. Multi-hit sweeps and unblockables are dodge fodder. Reading the attack tells you which button to press a half-second before it lands. The players who parry everything die to sweeps. The players who dodge everything never open a gun-strike. The ones who read the attack do both.
Practice on Minoris, not bosses
Learn the timing on the smallest enemies, where a mistake costs a sliver of health instead of a wipe. By the time you face an Extremis, the parry window should be muscle memory.
