Space Marine 2 Armour Segments and Regen

How armour segments work in Space Marine 2, how many each class has, how big they are by difficulty, and the real regen rules.

Segments sit in front of health

Armour is your first layer. Incoming damage chips segments away first, and only after the armour bar is empty does damage bleed into your health. Each class carries either two or three segments: Tactical, Assault, Bulwark and Heavy get three; Vanguard and Sniper get two. A two-segment class has less room for error but usually trades for a stronger gimmick.

Segment size by difficulty

One segment is not a fixed amount of health — it scales with difficulty in PvE. The damage a single segment absorbs is roughly: Minimal 10, Average 7.5, Substantial 5, Ruthless 4.5, and Lethal or Absolute 2.5. On the hardest modes a segment is thin, which is why perfect parries and executions matter far more than on Minimal.

Passive regen is slow — aggression is faster

Armour does regenerate on its own once you go a stretch without taking a hit, but the delay is long: around 25 seconds on most difficulties and closer to 50 on Lethal and Absolute. Sitting in a corner waiting for it to refill is a good way to die. The real recovery comes from violence: executions and Gun Strikes restore segments on demand, which is why a passive playstyle runs dry.

Do not confuse armour with health

Armour segments are the renewable layer; health is the bar you almost never top up outside of Stimms. Keeping armour full is how you stay alive in a long fight, because health only starts dropping once armour is gone. A low-health player also gains damage reduction as they approach death (up to 30 percent from 25 percent health down to 1 percent, and up to 80 percent in the final sliver), but that is a cushion, not a plan. For the active ways to refill segments, see executions and Gun Strikes and contested health recovery. The Mortal Wound and Stimm page covers what happens once health actually fails.
