Space Marine 2 Team Comps: Three Players, Three Jobs

Most failed Operations are a composition problem, not a skill problem. What a squad actually needs to cover.

Three jobs, not three players

A squad needs someone who holds the front, someone who kills the armoured threats, and someone who handles the adds and revives. Any composition that covers all three works; any composition that doubles up on one and misses another fails. That is why three of the same class feels strong and dies on the first elite.

Front line

The job is to be the thing the swarm hits, survive it, and stop the chaff reaching the others. Melee-capable classes with defensive tools do this best. A front line that runs away collapses the squad’s positioning, which is the most common failure in public games.

Armour answer

Something that can kill the biggest enemy on the field in reasonable time. Without it, the squad grinds elites for minutes while adds arrive. This is the job most often missing in random groups, because players build for the enemies they see most rather than the ones that stop the mission.

Support and adds

Clearing the chaff, reviving, and managing the ammo and healing economy. It is the least glamorous role and the one that decides whether a run completes. The support player is also the one who should be calling out priority targets.

Covering a gap

If the squad has no dedicated armour answer, someone has to build for it even at the cost of their preferred playstyle. A weapon swap before the mission is cheaper than a failed run. The same logic applies to healing and to ranged pressure. Composition is about coverage rather than about individual preference.

Public games

In public matches you cannot choose your composition, which means you should pick the missing role rather than the one you want to play. That habit alone raises completion rates more than any build guide.
