Space Marine 2 Trygon: The Exfiltration Boss and the Floor

The Trygon ends Exfiltration by burrowing through the arena. Why the ground is the telegraph and chasing it is how the fight goes wrong.

The ground is the telegraph

A burrowing boss removes the usual cue. You cannot watch a wind-up animation for something under the floor, so you read the surface instead: disturbed ground, dust, and the movement of the Tyranid swarm around you. The instinct that kills players is chasing. Standing where it last was, or moving toward the sound of it, puts you in the eruption zone with no time to react. The correct response to losing sight of it is to move to open floor with an exit line and wait — the eruption is the window, and you want to be outside it when it happens, not inside it.

Melee or dodge, not parry

When it surfaces it commits to melee, and its swings are the punishable part. Dodge the eruption, then treat the surfaced phase as the damage window: parry what is parryable, take the Gun Strike, and get out before it goes under again. Two dodge-related habits matter here. First, dodge sideways rather than backwards — a backwards dodge keeps you in the eruption line. Second, keep your dodge available: it is the only answer to a boss you cannot see, so spending it on clearing a Gaunt is a bad trade. The perfect dodge and Gun Strike page covers the counter timing after a successful dodge.

The mission before the boss

Exfiltration is a rescue and extraction mission, which means it moves. That has two consequences: the squad arrives at the arena having spent resources on the route, and the arena itself is a defended position rather than a corridor. So the run is a resource question — if you arrive with low armour and no Stimms, the boss phase is a coin flip regardless of skill. The fix is boring and effective: clear the approach without taking chip damage, and do not spend grenades on Minoris when the Terminus is still ahead. See mortal wounds and stimms for when a Stimm is worth spending.

Squad fit

The Trygon rewards mobility and punishes static damage. Assault and Vanguard can reposition through the eruptions and punish the surfaced phase; Heavy and Sniper want a fixed angle and will spend half the fight moving. Bulwark’s banner is at its best here, because the squad groups naturally between eruptions and the armour restoration lands on everyone. If your group keeps wiping, the usual cause is three players standing in a triangle waiting for the boss, taking an eruption each. Spread out, watch the floor, and let whoever it surfaces on be the one who dodges. The enemy list covers the rest of the Terminus roster, and the Operations list shows where this mission sits in the run order.
