STALKER 2 Anomaly Types and How to Cross Them

Anomalies are not traps, they are terrain with rules. How detectors, bolts and approach angles get you through a field with artifacts intact.

The families

Gravity anomalies pull or crush. They are the ones that kill players who walk forward while watching the artifact instead of the ground. Thermal anomalies burn a defined volume, often with a visible flame or shimmer. They tend to be static, which makes them the easiest to learn. Electrical anomalies discharge in a radius and are the ones that punish standing in the open. They are also the reason a fight inside a field goes badly. Chemical anomalies leave a persistent hazard that damages over time, so the danger is the ground you are standing on rather than the moment you touch it. Names and exact behaviour differ by field, and the reliable way to learn any of them is to watch the cycle before you enter.

The three tools that matter

A detector. Higher tiers give direction and distance rather than a vague proximity beep, which converts hunting from walking into the hazard to walking around it. Bolts. Thrown into a field, they trigger anomalies and reveal positions. This is not a gimmick; it is how you map a field’s safe path without spending health. Your ears. Each anomaly family has an audio tell that repeats. Stand at the edge for ten seconds and you will learn the rhythm, which is the actual safe window for crossing.

How to cross a field

Enter at the edge, not the middle. Throw a bolt ahead of each step until the pattern is clear. Watch the cycle rather than the artifact. Take the artifact, then leave the way you came rather than looking for a shorter route — the path you already mapped is the only one you know is safe. If a fight starts inside a field, leave the field first. Fighting among anomalies means every reposition is a gamble, and the enemy usually knows the ground better than you do.

Anomalies as weapons

The same rules apply to enemies. Pulling a mutant or a group of stalkers into an anomaly is a legitimate tactic, and it is the cheapest way to deal with something you cannot out-shoot. The mutant page covers which enemies can be led and which cannot.

The income loop

Fields respawn artifacts, so a route through two or three known fields near a base is renewable income. The artifact page covers detection and value, and the weight artifact page covers what to do with a field full of loot and no capacity.
