STALKER 2 Controller: Breaking the Psi Attack

What it does

Its attack is psychic, and it works through the space between you rather than along a bullet path. Standing in the open at range is exactly the situation it is built for. The practical effect is a fight where your health drains while you look for something to shoot, and the thing killing you may be barely visible.

The counter

Break line of sight. Psi attacks need a connection, and cover that blocks sight blocks the attack. This is the whole fight. Close the distance behind cover. At range you are losing slowly; closer, its attack has less time to work and your weapon does more. Do not trade. Standing in the open firing at a Controller is the fastest way to die to one, because your damage arrives over seconds while its damage arrives immediately. Watch your psi protection. Where it appears

Controllers live in underground areas and in some surface locations, which means they are usually encountered in exactly the place where cover is limited and sound carries. That combination makes them the most dangerous non-boss mutant for a player without psi protection, and it is why the mutants page puts them in a different category from the melee ones.

Squad play

Two players approach from different angles. The Controller can only suppress one direction, so the second player gets a clean window. Solo, the answer is patience: move cover to cover, take shots when you have a sightline, and never cross open ground while it is attacking.
