Exotic Class Item Destiny 2: Get It via Dual Destiny
Learn how to unlock the Exotic Class Item in Destiny 2 through the Dual Destiny mission and farm the best two-perk rolls for your build.
You finished Dual Destiny and the roll was garbage. Again. The Exotic Class Item is a buildcrafting lottery, but you can tilt the odds in your favor.
This armor piece drops from one mission: Dual Destiny. It demands two Guardians solving ciphers together. There is no solo route, so grab a partner before you start.
How do you unlock the mission?
Own the latest saga expansion and finish its campaign. Reach the post-campaign endgame first. A quest node for Dual Destiny then appears on your map.
The starting point sits in the quest log rather than the destination map, since menus shift between seasons. You cannot launch it from orbit without meeting those prerequisites.
Bring a friend or use the in-game partner finder. The encounter is built around two players. One reads a cipher; the other enters it across the arena, then you swap.
Why the perk pair matters
Each item carries two armor perks at once. One draws from your class pool, the other from a shared pool. That mimics a custom build you would normally need two separate exotics to run.
You do not choose the perks. The game rolls them randomly on every drop. That randomness is the entire appeal and the entire headache for min-maxers.
Certain pairs redefine whole subclasses. Others are pure vault filler. Skim community perk rankings before you burn hours chasing a roll you saw in a clip.
How should you farm it?
Replay Dual Destiny for more chances at a better pair. The lockout changes with the season, so plan the grind around one clear per reset rather than around a weekly total you remember.
Farm with a partner who also wants rolls. Two clears per run means double the drops, and you can shard the leftovers for other upgrade materials.
Match rolls to your subclass before dismantling anything. Our buildcrafting basics explain how perks stack, and the god-roll guide lists targets worth keeping.
The exotic armor angle
This item is unique among exotics because it holds two traits. Most exotic armor grants one signature perk. This one bends two together for far more flexible setups.

Flexibility beats raw power here
Flexibility beats raw power here. A middling pair can enable a build your fixed exotic cannot. Keep a few on hand instead of scrapping everything but the best.
Perk pools rotate over time. Older combinations may leave the loot table. Farm the pairs you want while they are live, and track availability in your collections screen.
