Destiny 2 Impact Core: What Players Usually Mean
There is no item called an impact core in Destiny 2. Here is what players usually mean and where to earn enhancement cores.
There is no item called an impact core in Destiny 2. You will not find it at a vendor, in your inventory, or in any loot table. The search almost always means one of two things: enhancement cores, or masterwork materials in general.
That mixup is common because core is loose slang in this community. Players say cores for enhancement cores, then add a word in front of it when describing a different upgrade material. The result is a search term that sounds like an item but is not one.
What enhancement cores do
Enhancement cores are the basic masterwork currency. You spend them when leveling weapons and armor through masterwork tiers. Every gear level past the base costs cores. The top tier adds an enhancement prism for legendary gear, or an ascendant alloy for exotics.
In other words, cores are the entry point to masterworking, not the whole cost. Budget for them whenever you plan to fully masterwork a new drop.
Where to earn them
The baseline source is dismantling legendary gear you no longer need. That covers most of a normal player’s needs without extra effort.
Beyond that, higher-difficulty activities award masterwork materials, including some Nightfall tiers and other endgame content. Vendor bounties and seasonal tracks also feed the pool. What is on offer rotates, so check the activity rewards screen in-game before grinding one source.
If you are farming materials on purpose, our currency farming guide lays out a weekly loop that covers cores alongside other spendables. For faster gear turnover, our gear farming guide helps you decide what to keep and what to break down.
How many should you hold?
Do not hoard blindly. Cores pile up fast once you dismantle junk, and holding hundreds of them delays nothing. A small buffer is enough.
The smarter move is cleaning your vault first, so you always have material to break down. Our vault management guide covers a cleanup order that keeps dismantle-ready gear on hand.
Enhancement cores feed the same upgrade path, and the upgrade modules page explains what each material actually buys.
