Destiny 2 Quicksilver Storm: exotic trace rifle
What Quicksilver Storm is, how it plays, where this exotic trace rifle came from, and how to check if it is currently obtainable.
What is Quicksilver Storm? It is an exotic trace rifle that fires in bursts and chains lightning between targets. That makes it a crowd-control tool first and a boss-killer second, and judging it by boss damage numbers misses the point. It wants packs of enemies, not a single health bar.
Where it came from
Quicksilver Storm arrived with Season of the Splicer as that season’s exotic, earned through the seasonal activity content rather than a raid. Like many exotics from that era, its catalyst was part of the season’s reward track.
How it plays
The burst pattern rewards clean mid-range hits, and the lightning chains into nearby enemies. In PvE it shines in strikes and any activity where adds clump together.
In PvP it is a niche pick, because trace rifles have short range and a rhythm that experienced players punish. It can still win a lane fight when the burst lands clean. Our PvP weapons guide lists stronger Crucible options.
How to get it now
Old exotics from retired seasons are not always lost. Bungie folded many of them into later systems, so the weapon can appear from endgame activities and from Xûr’s rotating weekend stock. Check his stall first, since it is the cheapest path when he carries it. Our Xûr guide tracks where he sets up each week.
If you already own it, Collections shows what you have unlocked, and the Triumphs panel tracks its catalyst progress. Community build sites list the current perk text if you want a second opinion before investing. The catalyst objectives follow the standard pattern, so keep the rifle equipped while you farm.
Is it worth the exotic slot
Exotic slots are competitive, and Quicksilver Storm competes with crowd-control staples rather than boss-killers. If your activities lean on deleting majors and bosses, another exotic will outperform it.
If you run strikes, Distortions, and add-heavy content, it earns the slot. Try it in a few Distortion zones before you decide. The chain lightning is the whole weapon, and you either enjoy that loop or you do not.
