Nu Udra Hunt Guide: Oil, Fire and a Blind Octopus
Nu Udra coats itself in oil and sets it alight when enraged. How the six limbs attack, why Water works, and how its blindness helps you.
Nu Udra is a cephalopod the size of a building, permanently coated in a layer of black oil silt that it can ignite at will. That single fact defines the fight: a monster that is always flammable and chooses when to burn.
Target and element
The mouth is the weak point. Water is the element that works — which is the correct answer even though the monster spends part of the fight on fire. Fire is resisted, so a Fire build is the wrong call on the one monster that looks like it wants to be set alight.
The enrage is a phase change
When Nu Udra enrages, the oil coat ignites and the whole body becomes a hazard. Contact damage goes up, the visual noise goes up, and the safe zones shrink. This is not a fight where you keep trading through the enrage — you create distance and wait for the oil to burn down.
Understanding that the fire is a state rather than a permanent condition is most of the fight’s learning curve.
Six limbs, one blind head
It has six large limbs for movement and attack, with the remaining two reduced and used as a shield in front of the mouth. That shield matters: your target is behind a pair of limbs the monster actively uses to protect it.
It is also nearly blind, relying on bioluminescent sensory organs rather than sight. Practically, that means its tracking is based on your presence and movement rather than a visual lock — breaking away is more effective than trying to out-strafe it in its face.
The offspring
Nu Udra hatches young in numbers. They are a nuisance rather than a threat, but they add chip damage and clutter to an already visually busy fight. Clear them when they cluster; do not chase them around the arena.
Gear notes
Water on the weapon, and fire resistance is genuinely useful during the enrage. Mobility skills help more than guard skills, because the danger is area coverage rather than a blockable attack. Flash effects are resisted, so do not build a plan around blinding it.
