Space Marine 2 Heavy Iron Halo Build

How the Heavy's Iron Halo barrier works, why the class has no melee weapon, and how to play the stationary gun platform without getting swarmed.

The Iron Halo

The Heavy’s signature ability projects a barrier that blocks all incoming ranged damage from the front and sides. It turns the Heavy into a moving wall the squad can assemble behind to press an advantage, and it is the reason a Heavy can hold a firing line that would shred anyone else. The catch is direction: the barrier is frontal and side, so anything that gets behind you, or any melee, walks straight through it.

No melee weapon

The Heavy is the only class that brings heavy two-handed weapons and no designated melee weapon. That is a real limitation, not a flavour choice. Without a melee option the Heavy cannot execute stalled Majoris enemies for armour the way every other class can, so it leans entirely on Gun Strikes from parries and on the team feeding it safe windows.

The platform depends on the team

Because the Heavy trades mobility for output, it is completely dependent on teammates keeping melee off it. A Heavy left alone in a swarm dies fast despite three armour segments, because it cannot clear bodies the way an Assault or Bulwark can. The classic comp of Heavy, Bulwark and Sniper works precisely because the Bulwark restores armour and the Sniper answers ranged and Extremis threats while the Heavy lays down fire.

Playing it well

Pick your firing position before the fight. Drop the Iron Halo when ranged pressure spikes, keep your back to a wall so the frontal barrier covers your arc, and trust the team to handle what closes distance. Your job is sustained damage, not hero plays. For the squad context, read the classes overview and blue vs red attacks — knowing what the barrier cannot stop is half the build. The armour segments page covers the three-segment cushion you are protecting.
