Space Marine 2 Tyranid Warriors: The Mid-Tier Threat
Warriors anchor every swarm. Kill them first and the swarm becomes manageable; ignore them and they kill the squad.
The unit that makes swarms work
A swarm of small Tyranids is a nuisance. A swarm with Warriors in it is a fight, because the Warriors are the part that can actually kill a Space Marine. They are tougher than the chaff, they hit harder, and they coordinate the swarm by simply being the thing you have to deal with.
Variants change the priority
Warriors come in ranged and melee configurations. A ranged Warrior shooting from the back of a swarm is the more urgent target, because it damages you while you are busy with the front. Identify the variant before choosing an approach: the ranged one wants to be reached, the melee one wants to be avoided until the chaff is cleared.
Kill them with focus, not with spray
Warriors take concentrated damage. Spreading fire across a swarm leaves Warriors at half health and still attacking, which is the worst possible state. One player commits to a Warrior, kills it, then moves to the next. That is faster than everyone shooting everything.
Melee and parry
Warriors telegraph melee attacks, and parrying opens them for a gun strike. Against a melee Warrior, that exchange is often faster than shooting it. The risk is the rest of the swarm, which is why the parry happens when the chaff around you is already cleared.
Where they appear in a swarm
Usually behind the first line, sometimes on the flanks. The pattern is that they arrive after the chaff, which gives you a window to clear the front before they engage. Using that window well is the difference between a controlled fight and a grind.
The ammunition question
Warriors are the reason a bolter’s ammunition matters. A mission with many Warriors punishes wasteful fire early, and resupply is not always where you need it.
