STALKER 2 Inventory: The Weight Budget Rule

Weight decides what you can loot, and most players carry four weapons they never fire. How to build a kit that leaves room for profit.

The budget

Split your capacity into three parts: kit, ammunition, and loot. Kit is fixed. Ammunition scales with how long you plan to stay. Loot is whatever is left, and the mistake is treating it as the remainder rather than as the goal. The practical version: decide the loot target before you leave. If you are going artifact hunting, carry one weapon and light ammunition so that the backpack is the payload. If you are going into a firefight, carry the ammunition and accept that you will come back with less.

What to cut

Duplicate weapons. One primary, one sidearm. A second rifle is weight you will not use and cannot sell for enough to justify carrying. Excess ammunition types. Every caliber you carry is a supply line you have to fund. Two calibers is plenty — the coupons page covers what that costs over a playthrough. Food and drink in bulk. Take what the trip needs. Armour you are not wearing. Spare suits belong in the personal stash, not in the bag.

The quick-slot discipline

Quick slots are for what you need in the first two seconds of a fight: healing, anti-radiation, a grenade. Anything else can live in the backpack. Players who fill quick slots with situational items end up fumbling for a medkit while bleeding.

The loot decision

Every item you pick up is a decision about what you are leaving behind. Value per weight is the metric, not value alone — a heavy rifle worth a few hundred coupons is worse than a light artifact worth thousands. The artifact page covers what the good items are and the stash page covers where they spawn.

When you are over

Being over the weight limit slows you, drains stamina, and turns the walk to the trader into the most dangerous part of the trip. The fix is to drop, not to push on: leave the low-value heavy items on the ground and pick them up next trip if they are still there. The habit that solves this permanently is the weight artifact set — the weight artifact page explains why that category is worth more than any damage bonus you could equip instead.
