STALKER 2 Pseudogiant: The Fight You Should Skip
The Pseudogiant is a walking tank with a shockwave. Why it is rarely worth the ammunition, and how to survive it if you have no choice.
What it does
It closes slowly and hits enormously. Its stomp sends out a shockwave, and it throws debris, which means cover protects you from one attack and not the other. It also takes a great deal of damage. That combination — slow, tough, devastating — is what makes it a bad trade: the ammunition and health you spend killing it is worth more than anything it drops.
If you have to fight
Keep moving laterally. Its attacks are committed and slow; standing still is what gets you hit. Punish after the stomp. The shockwave is a commitment with a recovery, and that recovery is your damage window. Use hard cover for the thrown debris, and open ground for the shockwave. The two attacks want different positioning, which is the actual difficulty. Aim for the head and keep firing. There is no clever trick here — it is a damage check, and the check is expensive.
The better answer
Walk around it. A Pseudogiant in an open region is avoidable, and avoiding it costs nothing. That is not cowardice; it is the same expected-value reasoning that governs every encounter in the Zone — the mutant loot page makes the arithmetic explicit. The exception is a location it is guarding, where a quest or a stash is behind it. Then it is a cost of doing business, and the preparation is ammunition, medical items, and a route that lets you break contact if it goes wrong.
Preparation that helps
Anything that reduces the shockwave’s impact — distance, mainly — and enough healing to survive one mistake. Psi protection does not help here; this is physical damage. The mutants page places it among the special cases, and the combat tips page covers the terrain-first approach that applies to everything bigger than a dog.
