STALKER 2 Snorks: Shooting a Leaping Target
Snorks close distance in bounds and are hard to hit mid-air. Why standing still loses and how to use geometry instead of aim.
Why they are hard
A Snork closes distance in bounds. Mid-air it moves unpredictably, and a player tracking it with a rifle usually misses the shot that mattered and then has it at contact range. The other problem is that they come in groups, so the one you are tracking is never the one that reaches you.
The counter
Let them come to you. Standing still and firing at a leaping target is the losing version. Backing into a corridor or a doorway removes their angles. Shoot the approach, not the leap. A Snork has to land before it can attack again. The landing is the predictable moment, and it is where damage actually lands. Use wide weapons. A shotgun or anything with spread hits a target that is not where you expected. A scoped rifle is the worst tool for this fight. Keep something behind you. Same rule as dogs: one approach direction is worth more than any weapon.
Where they appear
Snorks live in underground areas and ruined structures, which means the tight-space advantage is usually available. That is the good news — the bad news is that a Snork in an open field is genuinely dangerous and the correct answer there is to leave.
The ammunition question
Snorks are not worth expensive rounds. If your loadout’s only answer is a precision rifle, you will spend a lot of money on a cheap enemy — the mutant loot page covers why that trade is bad. The mutants page covers the rest of the bestiary, and the combat tips page puts terrain ahead of accuracy, which is the whole answer to this one. Practise it on the packs you meet by accident: every Snork you kill in a doorway instead of a field is ammunition saved for something that matters.
